CHS Senior Service Day tradition continues with the Class of 2024

Other area schools are known for “Senior Skip Day,” but Colby High School seniors instead embrace “Senior Service Day.” Wednesday, May 1st, the Class of 2024 served in at least nine locations throughout the community.  Area businesses and locations hosted groups of CHS Eagles and adult volunteers as they painted, cleaned, gardened, and served.

Ten years ago, National Honor Society Advisor Hollie Timson worked with then-CHS Principal Jeff Wallingford and then-CPS Superintendent Terrel Harrison to establish a new tradition. Instead of a day on which seniors could be pressured into making poor decisions, NHS would sponsor a day to give back to the community that had invested so much into their success.  Our current NHS advisors, Trish Starbuck and Shelly Myers, have continued and grown the tradition.

Since then, walls have been painted, litter has been cleaned up, sheds and rooms have been scrubbed, and music has been filed. Our goal is to leave this next generation with a positive experience and an example of how to get involved and improve where their journey takes them. Well done, Class of 2024.
