August Music Booster Minutes

Colby Music Boosters-  Aug.


Present: Christina Jaeger (New Pres.), Andrea Davis (New Treasurer), Trish Starbuck (Past President), Laura Norris (New Secretary), Jill Nickols, Joey Nickols,  , Jennifer Otten, Marleen Pfeifer


TREASURER’S REPORT: No report Treasurer was absent


            Music Booster Cards:  Mr. Nickols and his students worked on recruiting the list of businesses last Spring.  A few names need to be finalized and Mr. Nickols will send the cards to print at Leroy’s Printing.  The target date is Sept. 1st.  Once the cards have been printed Mr. and Mrs. Nickols will distribute them to the MS and HS students to sell.  Music Boosters board members will help distribute the signs and thank you notes to the sponsors.

            Sign up at Enrollment:  We usually have a sign up sheet at enrollment to get people signed up for Music Boosters.  At the July meeting Mrs. Starbuck and Mrs. Otten volunteered to work the table.

           Mrs. Starbuck:  7 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

           Mrs. Otten: 1:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m.


            Election of New Officers:  New officers for the coming year were chosen at this meeting.  Thank you so much to our new volunteers who are stepping into leadership positions! 

New Officers are:

           Christina Jaeger: President

            Andrea Davis:  Treasurer

            Laura Norris:  Secretary

Once Becky Dickman (past Treasurer) has time to get the checkbook in order we will need to arrange for her to past that on to Mrs. Davis and get signature cards signed at the bank by the new Treasurer and new President. 

       Overview of what Music Boosters is:  Members who have been active explained the basic function of music boosters and answered questions.  The Music Boosters Club is an organization that raises funds to support music in our schools.  In the past they have sponsored scholarships for music camp, help raise funds for music trips, worked on extra fundraisers for big trips like last year’s New York trip, purchased music equipment and instruments.  The two main fundraisers are Music Booster cards (sold early in the fall) and the Pizza Making (sold in Oct. make in Nov).  Extra fundraisers can be added as needed.

            Meeting Dates Finalized:  Meeting dates for the upcoming year were finalized.  Meeting Dates and minutes are posted on the front page of the website under the Music Boosters Tab (  It was decided that the Sept. meeting will be held at El Dos also at 6:00 pm.

            Grade School:  As most of the fundraising efforts go to the MS and HS, Mrs. Starbuck asked if Mrs. Otten had any needs or wants for the Grade School Art Department.  She would like to have 2-3 ipads for students use in her classroom.  Upon discussion, she said mini ipads would work also.  We will research prices and discuss this possibility at later meetings. 

            High School Musical:  Mr. Nickols is doing a musical this year at the high school.  He has decided on Seussical, a musical based on books by Dr. Seuss.  The musical will be early November.  Mrs. Otten and Mr. Nickols discussed having the grade school students come out to view parts of the musical as a preview.  They will work on figuring this out between them.


Grade School (K-3) : Mrs. Otten- Mrs. Otten is getting her room ready for the start of school.

Middle School (4th-8th): Mrs. Nickols- Mrs. Nickols is getting her room ready for the beginning of school.

High School (9th-12th): Mr. Nickols- Mr. Nickols is in the middle of HS band camp this week to get ready for marching band season.
